About Our Firewood
Hardwood That Actually Burns the Way It Should
Our firewood comes directly from the trees we remove throughout Santa Cruz County, the South Bay, and the Monterey Bay region. Rather than sending good wood to a landfill, we season and sell it — which means you're getting firewood with a clear, local origin and no supply chain markup.
The species available vary depending on what's come through our tree work recently — coast live oak, blue gum eucalyptus, and other regional hardwoods are common in our inventory. We season the wood properly before it's available for sale, which means lower moisture content, cleaner burning, more heat output, and less creosote buildup in your flue.
Availability changes as our inventory moves, so the best way to check what we currently have and in what quantities is to give us a call.
Why It Matters That Wood Is Seasoned
The Difference Between Good Firewood and a Smoky Frustration
Not all firewood is equal — and the biggest variable is moisture content. Freshly cut ("green") wood contains a significant amount of water. When you try to burn green wood, most of the energy goes toward evaporating that moisture rather than producing heat. The result is a fire that's hard to start, produces more smoke than flame, burns cool, and deposits far more creosote in your chimney than properly dried wood does.
Seasoned wood — wood that has been split and dried for a sufficient period — has had most of that moisture driven out. It lights more readily, burns hotter and cleaner, produces more usable heat per log, and is significantly safer for your chimney and flue over time.
When you buy firewood from a hardware store or a roadside seller, the moisture content is often unknown. Ours is seasoned before it goes out the door.

Species We Commonly Have Available
Regional Hardwoods With Real Heat Value
The specific species we have available changes with our tree work, but common offerings include:
Coast Live Oak
One of the best firewood species in California. Dense, long-burning, and high in BTU output. Coast live oak from our Santa Cruz and South Bay removals is some of the most sought-after firewood in the region. Burns hot and slow — ideal for overnight fires.
Blue Gum Eucalyptus
Abundant throughout our service area and an excellent firewood species when properly seasoned. Burns very hot with a distinctive aroma. Best suited to wood stoves and outdoor fire pits rather than open fireplaces, as it can throw sparks. A great value for the heat output it produces.
Mixed Hardwood
Depending on current inventory, we may have a mixed load available from other species encountered in our tree work — bay laurel, madrone, and other regional hardwoods. All seasoned before sale.
Species availability is not guaranteed — call ahead to find out what's currently in stock and whether the species you're looking for is available.
How to Order
Simple to Order, Local to Deliver
Pickup
Firewood is available for customer pickup. Call us at (831) 428-9209 to check current inventory, confirm quantity and species availability, and arrange a pickup time.
Delivery
We offer delivery across our service area. Delivery pricing depends on quantity and location — ask when you call and we'll give you a straight answer. We'll stack it where you need it.
Quantities
We sell firewood by the cord, half cord, and face cord (Rick). Not sure how much you need? Here's a rough guide:
-
Face cord (Rick): A stack 8 feet wide, 4 feet tall, and one log length deep. Good for occasional use — weekend fires through the season.
-
Half cord: 64 cubic feet of stacked wood. Suitable for moderate regular use — a few fires per week through the cooler months.
-
Full cord: 128 cubic feet of stacked wood. The right choice for households that heat primarily with wood or burn daily through fall and winter.
Local and Sustainable
Good Wood From Trees That Were Already Coming Down
Our firewood inventory comes entirely from trees removed as part of our regular tree service work — hazardous tree removals, storm cleanup, and property management jobs across the region. We don't harvest trees for firewood production.
This means two things for you: the wood has genuine local provenance, and you're buying from a source that's using material that would otherwise go to waste. It's a practical approach that makes sense for our business and delivers a better product than supply chains where wood origin is opaque.
It also means availability fluctuates. We don't always have every species in stock, and we occasionally sell out of high-demand wood like coast live oak entirely before restocking. If you're planning ahead for the season, calling early gives you the best selection.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Firewood FAQs
Q: How do I know the wood is actually seasoned?
A: We season wood before it goes out the door — it's split and stored to dry for an appropriate period based on the species. If you want to check yourself, look for wood with visible checking (cracks at the ends of the log), a lighter weight relative to size, and a hollow sound when two pieces are knocked together. Green wood sounds dull and thuddy; seasoned wood rings.
Q: What species do you have right now?
A: Inventory changes with our tree work. Call (831) 428-9209 and we'll tell you exactly what's currently available in what quantities.
Q: Can I get coast live oak specifically?
A: When we have it, yes — and it goes quickly. Call ahead if oak is a priority. We can let you know when the next batch is available if we're currently out.
Q: Is eucalyptus safe to burn in a fireplace?
A: Eucalyptus burns very hot and can throw sparks more than denser hardwoods, so we recommend it for wood stoves with closed doors or outdoor fire pits rather than open-hearth fireplaces. It's excellent firewood for the right application and produces a lot of heat per cord.
Q: How should I store the firewood once it's delivered?
A: Stack it off the ground (on pallets or a wood rack), bark side up, in a spot with good airflow. A cover over the top is helpful in wet weather, but leave the sides open — air circulation is what keeps already-seasoned wood dry. Avoid stacking directly against the house, as this can invite termites and other pests.
Q: Do you sell year-round or only in winter?
A: We sell as inventory allows throughout the year. Summer and early fall is actually a great time to buy — prices are stable and you have time to get the wood stored and any remaining moisture driven out before burning season. Call anytime to check current availability.
